Italy Vacation

When in Rome...

Looking for a great vacation spot this year? Why not book a holiday in Italy? Italy is a country with a long and exciting history. From museums showcasing classical works of art to world-famous ancient buildings, you’re sure to find plenty to see and do here. Here are some specific cities you might want to visit on your Italy vacation.

Rome

Rome is located in central Italy, in the province of Lazio. The city is over 3,000 years old, and was the centre of the Roman Empire for over 400 years. The many places you can visit in Rome include the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Venezia, St. Peter’s Basilica, The Vatican and the Arch of Constantine, plus many, many more. You could spend an entire vacation in Rome and still not see everything it has to offer.

Venice

Venice is found in the northeast of Italy, in the region of Veneto. Venice is famous for being a partially submerged city; that is, its streets are waterways. You can go for a romantic gondola ride through its streets or visit any one of their museums, such as the Gallerie dell’Accademia, which houses Leonardo da Vinci’s famous drawing, the Vitruvian Man.

Florence

Florence is north of Rome, in the region of Tuscany. Among other things, it is home to the Uffizi Gallery, which is one of the most famous art museums in the world. Many of the Italian master painters’ work can be found there, including Giotto, Botticelli, da Vinci, Caravaggio, Michelangelo and Raphael, but it’s not just Italian work in the museum. Pieces from Dürer and Rembrandt are there as well.

Naples

Naples is located south of Rome, in the adjacent region of Campania. There are several piazzas and castles to see, and the museums in Naples are home to many great artifacts and relics from the Roman Empire, as well as Pompeii antiques. As in most major Italian cities, art museums are also prominent in Naples.

Milan

Milan is in the very north of Italy in the region of Lombardy, close to the border of Switzerland. In this city, the Santa Maria delle Grazie church is famous, because within it, covering the back wall, hangs da Vinci’s famous painting, The Last Supper. The Milan Cathedral is another popular attraction.

No one says you have to stay in an urban environment the whole time. Why just stick to touring cities on your Italy vacation when it has a gorgeous countryside to explore as well? You may find yourself skiing in the Alps to the north, or soaking up the sun at any one of the beaches that line the coast of the Mediterranean. The country is almost surrounded by water, so a beach is never that far away! And, if somehow Italy isn’t thrilling enough for you, you could try traveling to another exciting – though very different – place in the world. Who’s up for a trip to Las Vegas?
